AMP provides need based scholarships for aspiring artists and dancers. We believe dance and the arts are creative forces that build confidence and promote health and well being. AMP is dedicated to making sure all children in our community have access to arts education. A unique feature of our scholarship program is that every student received a personal mentor that meets with them privately each session to help them develop and achieve their goals. There are hundreds of artists in our community who come through our doors seeking space to showcase and nurture their talents and are in need of a venue. The demand for rehearsal space is high; especially for low cost space which allows artists to enjoy their craft while providing entertainment and cultural enrichment for our community.
However, many artists seeking to rent space in our facility have no income or budget for rent. The for-profit businesses that work in tandem with the Arts Mentorship Program seek to close that gap to give all people access to a professional experience that is normally only accessible and affordable to a small segment of our population.
SB Dance Arts runs and operates four dance studios, an art gallery and a music studio. (A-900 sq feet, B-917 sq feet, C-1235 sq feet D- 700 Sq feet). AMP subsidizes 25-45 hours a week of studio space that is reserved for community artists at a discounted rate through our Rent Subsidy Program.
Market price for studio space is $35 per hour. The subsidy program offers discounts of $10, $15, $20, $25, or a complete donation of the space. Plus with the help of the City of SB Redevelopment Agency , we have added a retractable wall that creates the perfect performance venue. Call for rates.
Potential renters should fill out our rent subsidy form which will be reviewed by the Rent Subsidy Committee. The committee sets the rate and the Rent Subsidy Coordinator sets up a contract and agreement with the artist.

Arts Mentorship Program and SB Dance Arts have collaborated to create a training ground for future dance educators. The student teacher mentor program creates a professional foundation to train, shape, and mentor the next generation of dance instructors and choreographers in our community and beyond. We believe the foundation of a good teacher is accountability, experience, training, communication, and charisma. Throughout the process dancers will need to learn and demonstrate those qualities in order to reach the final goal of a Faculty Member at SB Dance Arts or any other dance studio. Our connections in the dance community can help find work for dancers in Santa Barbara and around the country and the world.
Students will go through a series of steps to be become a Student Teacher/Faculty member. We do take into consideration seniority when deciding who ends up on faculty. Those who are entering the program when they are older are eligible, however those who have been a part of the Student Mentorship Program will be given seniority over dancers that have not taken part in the program. Students going through this program may receive Community Service for their school. See section below for details.
We also require that all Student-Teachers are training at Dance Arts or with a pre-approved reputable dance institution in our community.
