Steven began his dance
career in Kay Fultons Santa Barbara City College Dance Department.
Since then, he danced with Repertory-West Dance Company, Santa Barbara
Dance Theatre, Santa Barbara Civic Light Opera, Bill Evans Dance
Company, and Nora Reynolds Dance. Additionally he has performed
in works by such dance luminaries as Remy Charlip, David Parsons,
Lucas Hoving, and Tim Wingerd.
Steven has a long history
with Santa Barbara's Summer Solstice Celebration beginning in 1981.
He was an Artist-in-Residence 1987-90, Artistic Director 1996-2004.
Steven was a member of the
Lit Moon Theatre Company, performing featured parts in the past
five Lit Moon World Theatre Festivals and working with international
theatre and music artists such as Eva Magyar of Hungary and Nicole
Renaud of France. The company performed in festivals in Plovdiv,
Bulgaria in 2000 and the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in Scotland in
2001.
Steven co-directed Dance Warehouse from
1985-91 and was the Assistant Director of the Santa Barbara Dance Alliance 1986-87. He has taught locally at Laguna Blanca, Marymount, Cate, and San Marcos High School and currently teaches at Crane School.
He currently directs Stage Left Productions during the summer and co-directs Dance Arts with Alana Tillim and they co-direct four student companies.

Alana has been dancing for over 25 years, studying gymnastics,
ballet, modern, jazz, and hip hop. She is the owner and Co-Director of Santa Barbara Dance Arts
(formerly SBJDA)
She was a competitive gymnast with Gymnastics West before an injury made her transition to the dance world. She trained Ballet RAD and Jazz with the Menlo Park Royal
Academy of Dance in Northern California for 11 years. With the Academy she competed won several titles with DanceMasters of California. She was invited to perform
on Star Search and go on to compete nationally. During this time she took master classes with legendary
choreographers Tina Landon (choreographer for Janet Jackson), Joe Lanteri and Pepper Von. As Captain
of the Menlo Atherton High School Dance Team, Alana choreographed and managed her squad for 4 years.
Her team competed and placed regionally. She also started a dance department and taught dance,
gymnastics and a wide range of other sports at the Decathlon Sports Club Summer Camp in Woodside
California from 1992 - 1996.
Alana attended UCSB and studied jazz, ballet, and modern in the
UCSB Division of Dance while majoring in Political Science and History.
She and her partner Steven Lovelace have co-directed SB DANCE ARTS since 1998 and she teaches over 20 classes a week in Jazz, Hip Hop, Lyrical, and Broadway. She has taught at Creative Arts, Hope School, Kids Club, and currently teaches at Cold Spring School.
Choreography and performance credits include various fashion shows,
benefits, and repertory for the Axis Dance Company, and the Santa Barbara Dance Alliance New Works in
January of 2002, the SB Foundations Encore! in May 2003, and BASSH 2003 2006.
Alana has worked with several community organizations including Take Back
the Night, Rape Crisis Center, Council on Alcohol and Drug Abuse, United Way, Girls Inc, Fun In the Sun,
PAL, Forrest Foundation and more. She is on the board of directors of the Santa Barbara Neighborhood Clinics and is President of SB Dance Alliance.

Laurie has an extensive background in bookkeeping and owned her own medical billing company for several years. She is an accomplished visual artist and teaches Hebrew School at the Benai Brith Temple. She is truly the mother to every dancer at the studio and helps keep Steven and Alana sane.

Brittany is a Senior at Dos
Pueblos High School and has been dancing since the age of 5. She
has danced with SB DANCE ARTS for 7 yeas in Jazz and Hip Hop and
been an assistant for Destination Dance for 3 years. She performed
in SB Dance Alliance's BASSH in 2007 and is on the Varsity Cheer
squad for Dos Pueblos High School

Tamara
has been dancing and teaching in the Santa Barbara community for
over 10 years. She is co-founder of Taps, Ltd. a tap dance company
that toured and performed from 1993-1998. She has performed and
studied with the Civic Light Opera, Sam Weber, and Marc Mendonca
and many more!

Shannon Abero is very passionate about dance and finds it to be an
outlet of expression for her. She was previously represented by the DDO dance agency in Los Angeles and has had many wonderful dance jobs, such as being a featured dancer in Memoirs of a Geisha and on the Ellen Degeneres Show, performing at the House of Blues and for Monster's of hip-hop, as well as dancing for Nike's "Run Hit Wonder" and J.Lo's "Glow." Shannon has toured w/Asian singers as well as taught internationally - - including, Australia, the Philippines, Hawaii and LA. She is known for her upbeat, ghetto style and enjoys teaching to all who are open to having a fun dance experience.

Heather grew up dancing in
Salt Lake City, Utah with Roland Butler and the Ballet West Academy
under the direction of William Christiansen, but then left dance
to pursue a BA in Environmental Studies. At the young age of 30,
she decided to rededicate herself to the dance arts at UCSB. Before
graduating next spring, she will dance with the UCSB Student Dance
Company and choreograph for the Dance Department's Honors Project,
entitled In the Bedroom. She has taught dance in Santa
Barbara since 2001 and looks forward to inspiring young and old
dancers alike in the pursuit of self-expression through movement.
Heather gratefully acknowledges her family for so generously supporting
her dreams of dancing again.

is originally from Orange County where she trained at many local studios including Academy of Ballet and Dance Arts, Jimmy Defores, and Edge Performing Arts Studio in Los Angeles. She went to Orange County High School for the Performing Arts for classical and commercial dance. She has danced competitively for Academy of Ballet and Dance Arts and Esperanza High School, where she won the title Miss Dance Drill Team USA in 2007. She has won various scholarships including a 3- month training scholarship at Edge Performing Arts studio, CADTD scholarship, Patricia Sparrow scholarship, and the Alice Condodina UCSB performing scholarship. She has performed in various live performances including J’s Hairshow World Tour “Latino Expo”, New Works Dance Concert, In Mix’ed Company, and the UCSB Main Stage performances. She has studied with teachers such as: Nicole Harlan, Sophie Monet, Nancy Colahan, Valarie Huston, Christopher Pilafian, Terri Best, Mike Esperanza, Leann Alduanda, Kristin Todey, Ryan Lohoff, Jayne Persch, Tim Stevenson, Krista Miller, and was an assistant for Joe Loera. Lauren has been working as a hip-hop teacher for children in Santa Barbara through the non-profit organization of Everybody Dance Now and appreciates every moment that she spends with the children. Her choreography was recently chosen to appear in the New Works Concert 2010. Lauren is currently a dance Bachelor of Fine Arts student at University of California Santa Barbara.

relocated to Santa Barbara after living and dancing in New York City. She received most of her training on scholarship at the Alvin Ailey School where she was later asked to join Ailey II under the direction of Sylvia Waters. She was then accepted into the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater under the direction of Judith Jamison. She has also danced with Ballet Hispanico of NY, Buglisi/Foreman Dance and Complexions Contemporary Ballet under the direction of Dwight Rhoden and Desmond Richardson. She is now a "Mommy" of two beautiful girls and is happy to be teaching at SBDA.

Betsy Ann has been sharing her love of dance with children and adults for the past 13 years. She began her teaching in Marietta, Georgia at the age of 15 at Rhythm Dance Center as the exclusive Hip Hop instructor/choreographer for the studio and competitive company. She began teaching Jazz, Tap and Lyrical while at Rhythm. Upon graduating high school, she took her love for teaching to the University of Georgia, where she implemented her own Hip Hop program through the University’s student athletic center. While earning her degree in Business she choreographed for the University's Gymnastic team, the Gym Dawgs as well as the basketball dance team, The Georgia Red Hotz and toured nationally with LA DanceMagic convention/competition as a teacher’s assistant. Upon graduating, Betsy moved to Los Angeles to pursue her dancing career. Represented by the industry's leading dance agency, MSA, Betsy has had the privilege of working with major industry names such as Will Smith, Backstreet Boys, Rob Zombie, Nike and K-Swiss to name a few. Her work has been featured on TBS, MTV's "MADE" and Comedy Central. You can find Betsy in stores in Jamie King's "Rock Your Body" Workout DVD. Betsy continues to teach and choreograph at dance studios all over Southern California as well as traveling abroad to teach master classes and hold workshops. She is inspired by all of her students and feels beyond fortunate to be able to share her gift of dance with kids all over the globe.

is an L.A. native, he grew up dancing. Although he has never formally trained Lou has gained experience dancing on the street level as well being self taught. Lou has taught breakdance classes at Cruz Dance Studio as well as at RHYTHM Dance studio. Although his specialty is teaching the fundamentals of breakdancing he also regularly practices his hip hop choreography & freestyling techniques as well as popping, locking, and tutting. Lou believes in teaching foundation first and then catering to the students specific style, to ensure everyone has there own distinct breakdancing persona.

Mel trained with some of the most renowned schools in Canada which include the Banff Centre of Performing Arts, The Alberta Ballet, Goh Ballet Academy, and Royal Winnapeg Ballet. After training, she went on to perform with some of the greatest ballet companies in North America such as the National Ballet of Canada and the Boston Ballet. She has performed in Swan Lake, Giselle, Paquita, and the Nutcracker. She is a master technician and a disciplined instructor.

Jess teaches Jazz, Contemporary, Broadway, Hip Hop and Lyrical. She was a teaching assistant for the Tramaine and Pulse Conventions and Broadway Dance Center Intensives in NYC. She assisted Brian Friedman, Dan Karaty and Rhapsody. She has taught in several studios in New York and Connecticut and in addition to teaching and training, attended NYU for Art History and Psychology. We are excited to have her as a part of our team!

Sarah trained and taught in Sacramento California in Jazz, Hip Hop, Ballet, and Lyrical. She has taught for the last five years. In addition to teaching she has performed and choreographed for NBA events, competitions, and private events. She is a magician with the little ones and has a gentle and nurturing style in the classroom.

is an aerial theatre/dance company that has been in business for since 2003. The dynamic group of entertainment professionals include gymnasts, circus performers, rock-climbers, actors, dancers and artists in almost all the physical arts. They have experience on stages that run the gamut from Broadway to Las Vegas, the big screen and the small screen, touring internationally, corporate shows and full productions, including, LA Philharmonic, Cirque Du Soleil, the Olympics, and The Met. They are proud to be partnering with Santa Barbara Dance Arts to bring their unique combination of talents to Santa Barbara's young artists. Although they can't say it is without a self-serving intention as Airealistic is always in search of new performers to fly.

Musical Director and Vocal Music Instructor, has taught in Santa Barbara public and private schools for the past five years. Ms.Kennedy is a faculty member at Santa Barbara City College Adult Education, where she teaches a performance class and leads several choirs and at Marymount of Santa Barbara, where she teaches K-8 music. Ms.Kennedy attended the renowned New Orleans Center for the Creative Arts, and went on to receive a Bachelor of Music from the University of Illinois and a Master of Music from the University of California at Santa Barbara. Ms. Kennedy is also an alumna of the Music Academy of the West. She has been a featured soloist with the Santa Barbara City College Jazz Band, Chamber Orchestra, and Grand Opera. Her extensive opera performances include lead roles with Seattle Opera, New Orleans Opera, and most recently with Des Moines Metro Opera. Ms. Kennedy just completed a summer program, preparing students for productions in Hawaii, as part of the Hawaii Performing Arts Festival

has been directing theatre since 1972. He's performed and directed throughout the east coast and west coasts; In NYC, he performed in But It Is Nothing with Irene papas; he performed and developed, along with members of The Second City, The Mini Mobile Theatre - a clown show touring Boston and New York; he developed and performed the musical Rosa Parks, Thread in Time - in conjunction with The N.Y. Shakespeare Festival, with performances at The Public Theatre in NYC and the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C. In Los Angeles, he developed and performed in the musical Cameos. In Santa Barbara he was Dracula for the Ensemble Theatre Company’s Dracula, where he also directed Who’s Afraid of Viriginia Woolf. He performed with and founded Stagefright and CALYX, two improv touring companies. He also directed Santa Barbara Grand Opera’s initial production of Der Fledermaus. Since 1976, Laezer has taught acting and directing at the Dalton School, NYC, at Idyllwild Performing Arts High School where he directed A Doll’s House and taught Acting Shakespeare, and has worked throughout the Santa Barbara system’s public and private schools, most recently at Marymount of Santa Barbara.

Kristal Keinert has been dancing for as long as she can remember! Ballet was her first passion and in college she branched out to take jazz, hip-hop, modern, latin, and ballroom classes. She taught the Vaganova syllabus for six years, led the dance group Charis at Westmont College, danced and spoke at high schools in South Africa, and participated in Project Dance in New York City in April 2009. She currently teaches ballet and lyrical and thanks God for the ability to praise him through movement, as well as share her love for dance with those around her.

Kaci studied for 14 years in jazz, tap, ballet, lyrical, hip hop, and clogging. She won numerous awards as a member of the Carlsbad Dance Centre competition team and won scholarships from Co. Dance, The Pulse, and Tremaine. Kaci attended Carlsbad High and was a member of 7 time national champion Lancer Dancer Varsity Dance Team. Where she was captain and won titles at UDA National Dance Team Championships in Disneyworld. In her Junior year, Kaci was named Carlsbad’s Junior Miss of 2006 and continues to assist the program by encouraging young women to “be their best self.” Kaci is a senior at UCSB and plans to become an attorney with an emphasis in civil rights. She continues her dance training at The Edge and Millenium in Los Angeles, and attending conventions such as The Pulse On Tour. She most recently served as an assistant (ATA) for the Co. Dance convention for the 2009-2010 season. She is also a proud member of the Everybody Dance Now!, and creating a new chapter: EDN! San Diego.
Kaci is a black belt in Judo and a regional Judo referee for California Judo Incorporated. Her motto for life is “Walk it off.” Dance is her way of walking and Judo is her way of talking.

was a Professor of Contemporary Dance at the PARIS CONSERVATORY OF MUSIC AND DANCE (Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris), 1989-2008, and for the Rehearsal Director for the PARIS OPERA BALLET COMPANY (Opéra National de Paris), 1985-2008. She worked with the Assistant Director of the contemporary company which was part of the Paris Opera ballet, 1985-1989, and a member of the faculty at the MERCE CUNNINGHAM Dance Studioin New York, from 1979-1984, and became Mr. Cunningham’s assistant for repertory workshops, 1982-1984. Guest teaching in France includes the American Center and the Centre National de Danse in Paris, and for Ballet Preljocaj, DV8 from London, and the Australian Dance Theater, and more!

is a senior at San Roque high and has been dancing with SB Dance Arts for the last 9 years. She has trained in various styles and has worked as a teaching assistant. For 4 years, Nikki has been a member of SB Dance Arts Senior Dance company and is currently our Student Director. Nikki is attending Cal Arts as a Dance Major in Fall 2009.

Rachel Johnson is a 3rd year student at Santa Barbara City College. Originally from Phoenix, Arizona, Rachel has been performing in dance for sixteen years under the direction of Paula Carr. Also, attended Scottsdale Community College 2008-2009 performing with the Scottsdale Arizona Jazz Ensemble. She plans to continue her dancing at San Francisco State University next fall, finishing up her Bachelor of Arts in Dance.

17, is a new teacher for Santa Barbara Dance Arts, but has been a part of the studio for many years. She strives to be an innovative choreographer, and encompasses all forms of dance in her work. She trained mainly with Santa Barbara Dance Arts and Fusion Dance Company, and she has performed for many years in Santa Barbara Dance Alliances’ annual "BASSH" and "ON THE VERGE: Teen Choreographer's Showcase." She experienced the excitement of being on the nationally award winning varsity San Marcos High Marquette Dance Team, and was a hip-hop teacher for the organization Everybody Dance Now!.
